About the Producer:

Mong Coffee is a mill led by Rexson “Rex” Raguni in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands. Rex is recognized as a pioneer in the region for introducing slow-drying techniques and expanded natural processing at exportable scale. Working directly with about 8 local contributing farms across 6 collection stations, Rex personally oversees processing with precise temperature and moisture monitoring, showing how process control and patience yield quality premiums for smallholder farmers.

About the Farm:

The coffee originates from smallholder farms in the high-elevation terrain near Hagen in the Western Highlands, situated at around 1,850 meters above sea level. These farms cultivate a mix of traditional Arabica varieties—primarily Blue Mountain, Caturra, and Mundo Novo—benefiting from the region’s high altitude and ideal growing conditions before delivering their harvest to the local Mong Coffee collection network.

About the Process:

Harvest: Ripe coffee cherries are hand-harvested by smallholders across contributing local farms and delivered to the mill.

Natural Fermentation: Whole cherries are left intact for natural processing, allowing the fruit sugars to ferment into the seed.

Drying: The coffee undergoes a controlled slow-drying process on raised beds equipped with shade nets to regulate temperature, ensuring uniform drying and long-term flavor stability before export.
